FC Goa became the first Indian football club to book AFC Champions League ticket

FC Goa created history when becoming the first Indian club to have a ticket within the AFC Champions League group stage after 5-0 win against Jamshedpur FC in their final Hero Indian Super League group stage clash on Wednesday.

The club also broke their own record and ended the league group stage with 46 goals.

The victory ensured that FC Goa became number one after finishing the league stage with 39 points from 18 matches and claiming the Hero ISL League Winners Shield within the process.

With the top spot and an AFC Champions League group stage entry, Goa started on a positive note. There have been no signs of complacency and it took the visitors just 10 minutes to interrupt the deadlock.

Boumous initiated a counter-attack for his club after Mobashir Rahman missed his kick from corner. The midfielder set Corominas free and the striker executed a fine finish into internet past goalkeeper Rafique Ali with the Jamshedpur defence caught unawares.

Jamshedpur were not willing to take a seat back after going behind. Davide Grande missed a sitter within the 26th minute. From an attack down the left wing, Sumeet Passi crossed into the box for an unmarked grande but the striker hit it wide from close range.

The tempo of the match was slower after the restart. The striker laid off the ball for Doungel whose shot was deflected by Memo Moura.

A great effort by Boumous mostly doubled Goa’s lead after the hour mark. The Frenchman dribbled towards the sting of the box from the left flank before hitting a terrific shot that ricocheted off the woodwork.

Boumous, who has been in supreme form this season, provided the much-needed second goal within the 70th minute. Boumous dribbled into the box from the centre, found Doungel to his left who chipped the ball right back to the trail of the in-form attacker who smashed the ball into internet from six yards out.

With Jamshedpur looking tired, Goa added three more goals towards the top of the sport to script a fitting finish. Boumous picked up his 10th assist of the season with an honest through-ball for Jackichand who lobbed the goalkeeper and located internet. Minutes later, a chipped cross from the left flank by Edu Bedia found Fall who nodded the ball into internet to form it 4-0.

Later, Boumous picked the ball up from the left flank, dribbled towards the byline, beating defenders, and attained Goa’s fifth goal.

The Gaurs are going to be awarded the League Winners Shield in their home leg game.
